Saw that show in Pensacola Florida. It was amazing. They went all the way back to “Tom and Jerry” days. Harmonies we’re great. Told the story through the years. Did all the major songs. Anyone who loves Simon and Garfunkel must see the show.

“SOUND CHECK” RESET AND AWAY WE GO!

2pm matinee performance at a charming old style Detroit Theater with about 80% seats filling the joint. For the 20% who didn’t pay/show up you missed out on an nostalgic walk back in time with a 2.5 hours of the 60’s. Music of the Vietnam era warmed up us senior citizens and the show started with the front mikes not riding over the music. 2 songs in, they apologized, reset the wires and started again, to the appreciative delight of the baby boomers in attendance. A great show. Very, very talented musicians who loved being our escorts back in time. Voices were clear, music was spot on and if you closed your eyes, you were back in Central Park with 500,000 of your closest friends. If you are ever listening to music at home or in your car and a Simon & Garfunkel song comes on and you wish you were back in simpler times, do yourself a favor and go see this performance. Singers not playing S&G, singers honoring them.

Musician were great the singing with harmonies as mesmerizing. History of Simon and Garfunkel was very interesting, learned some new facts. Must watch.

SOUND GUY, LISTEN UP.

I can forgive the uninspiring background and commentary, but not the sound mix. The bass and drums completely overpowered some of S & G's best songs. The two main performers were incredible. The best songs were done with just the acoustic guitar and vocals. The drummer doesn't need to do a solo. Make up your mind on what you're trying to be.

STRANGELY UNBALANCED

This was a bad news, good news story. The first act dragged with dreary methodical academic plodding. Saved However by an upbeat second act that hit the high notes of the careers of S&G. The media backdrop was also disconcerting and frankly a wasteful distraction. While we enjoyed the best of the show, and had no problems with the quality of the artists, we left disappointed that a very important part of our life was sadly diminished by the shallow commercial dialogue accompanying the music, Worth seeing? Maybe but know that you are being used by opportunists playing on your nostalgia for the “good old days”.

JUST OK

The band at times did drown out the two singers portraying S & G. While they were enthusiastic backup performers, the better vocal numbers were when S & G sang together ( by themselves ) with just an acoustic guitar ( Scarborough Fair, America, Bridge Over Troubled Water). Granted the acoustics in the Van Wezel aren’t the greatest, at times some of the songs just sounded LOUD, with unintelligible lyrics. While some have mentioned the images behind the performers to be distracting, I liked them. They added context to the songs. Wondering why there were no pictures of S & G in any of the montages? Clips from The Concert in Central Park or even WoodStock could have provided some additional credibility to the performance. Licensing issues, perhaps?

GOOD MUSICIANS, YAWN BACKDROP PRODUCTION

We enjoyed the music but the “story” & footage was not American-centric at all. It missed the nostalgia mark for 90% of the audience. It should have been suited for us, not London, where the show originated. It could have been much more, even if they had to work around copy-written material. And the segment of children with codger voiceovers was embarrassingly irrelevant here. I could have done the photos & videos way better! It was all so “off”, except for the musicians.

Very dissapointing. There were too many songs that were unfamiliar and the backdrop pictures were horrible.. there could’ve been so many pictures that told us more of a story. The whole background was highly boring. Why not have pictures of the actual singers at different times and events in their lives? I would not suggest anyone visit Toronto to see this show. I saw the Simon and Garfunkel show last May in Niagara Falls, there was the very odd unfamiliar song..it was better by far!

The music was beautiful of course, but the show was poorly executed. There was a huge screen behind the performers that, most of the time, showed mundane images such as the London skyline, the Brooklyn Bridge and various nature shots. To be fair, there were occasionally iconic photos of the 60s which served to rouse the audience’s nostalgia. The worst part of the show was the dialogue. It was just awful! It was more like a high school freshman’s essay than the work of a professional playwright. Then there was that embarrassing/insulting moment when “Art” forgot where he was performing. “Providence” his partner stage whispered. Really, this was just an overpriced tribute band. If they were playing at Lupo’s there’d be fifty people watching the instead of the 2000 at the Vets at one third of the price. This show was pure exploitation of a great band and a bamboozled audience.

DISAPPOINTING

The venue is wonderful but for this concert, the sound was very bad. Any dialogue between the songs was unintelligible, the stage was very dark with only a few lights to highlight the performers, and the visuals on the large screen did not match the timeline that they were portraying. You know, the show is disappointing in both quality and expression of the performers.

OVERPRICED COVER BAND

Totally disappointed…music sounded good but lacked engaging stage show. Plenty of space on the stage for props, actors or even a rug but no, only dry dialog with several long pauses of background music while the actors took a break off stage just after performing 2 songs. Don’t waste the money…
